Climate Safe Neighborhoods Website Published

The Climate Safe Neighborhoods partnership was started in 2019 and brought together five cities through the Groundwork USA network to explore the question, what does race have to do with climate change? Through an analysis of historic redlining maps and modern satellite imagery, Groundwork Denver found an indisputable relationship between government-led housing segregation of the past century and vulnerability to extreme heat and flooding in Denver today. At present, our Climate Program works closely with residents from the formerly redlined neighborhoods of Westwood, Globeville, and Elyria/Swansea to identify and prioritize climate mitigation measures.
