Founding of Fresh Food Connect

Fresh Food Connect was started in 2016 as a pilot project between Denver Food Rescue, Denver Urban Gardens, and Groundwork Denver in Denver, Colorado to collect excess garden produce grown by community members to then be distributed to individuals and families facing food insecurity in the immediate community. The success of the pilot to engage backyard and community gardeners in hunger relief efforts led Fresh Food Connect to grow into a standing organization operating nationally. Fresh Food Connect seeks to close the gap between food waste issues and food access issues by redistributing backyard grown produce that would perhaps otherwise go to waste.
